LOS ANGELES – The jury in the Phil Spector trial will continue its 11th day of deliberation today, in the hopes of reaching a verdict on a charge that the record producer murdered actress Lana Clarkson more than four and a half years ago. The jury, who was given some new instructions after reporting an impasse a week ago, asked for a VCR Monday and buzzed twice during deliberations indicating they had questions. No reports were released on what the jury wanted to watch on the VCR, but during the trial they were shown a videotape of sheriff’s investigators interviewing Spector’s chauffeur. Driver Adriano De Souza is a key witness in the trial. He testified that Spector came out of his mansion with a gun in his hand and said “I think I killed somebody”, while Clarkson’s body sat slumped in a chair behind him. S[ector’s defense said a fountain, in the courtyard, and other noises made it difficult for the Brazilian-born driver to understand Spector. Spector, 67, is charged with second-degree murder. Clarkson, 40, died on Feb. 3, 2003, from a gunshot fired in her mouth. Spector’s defense said the shot was self-inflicted, either an accident or a suicide.
