…investigation launchedReports presented at the recent statutory meeting for Region Two’s (Pomeroon-Supenaam) Regional Democratic Council (RDC) for the month of January indicated that countless vaccines were spoiled at various hospitals and healthRegion Two Chairman Devanand Ramdattcentres within the region.This has since raised many concerns and according to Region Two Chairman Devanand Ramdatt, an investigation was launched. Ramdatt said the report raised a lot of eyebrows at the recent RDC meeting, and as such, he had asked the acting clerk of the house, Roop Kumar Persaud to investigate the reason behind such spoilages.Persaud was at the time sitting in for the region’s REO, Rupert Hopkinson, who was absent from the first RDC meeting for the year. Ramdatt said Persaud was tasked with finding out the main reason behind the wastage of the vaccines and to come up with findings. He said based on the findings, necessary actions or recommendations will be done to avoid such occurrences in the future. Ramdatt did not reveal how many vaccines in total were spoilt.At the meeting, People’s Progressive Party Councillor and Chairman for the Health and Sanitation Committee, Arnold Adams reported under the health report that there was a large amount of vaccines that were spoilt in 2017. He could not give a reason as to why this happened, however, he said a report was presented to him by a Medex for the region on the spoilage.
