Tata Group to mentor 300 women staff for top leadership positions

first_imgIn a bid to promote women in leadership positions, the Tata Group will now place 300 women under a cross-company mentoring programme. In a first-of-its-kind initiative, the project will have the female executive being mentored by 18 CXO’s and 35 CEO’s from 45 group firms, the Economic Times reported. This means the 300-odd selected women will not be restricted to learning from their bosses but they would get a wider network of leaders to choose from. There are about 1.45 lakh women working in more than 100 Tata’s subsidiary companies, a few of who occupy CXO positions. The main aim of the programme is to have more women at the top leadership positions, in line with the company’s vision of gender-diversity, which was set by its chairman Cyrus Mistry. In 2014, Mistry had said he wanted to have over 1,000 women leaders by 2020.”On the leadership journey, hand-holding by an experienced mentor can be vital support to help us grow. Through the cross-company mentoring programme, we provide an opportunity for our women professional to fulfil their potential and move up the ladder,” NS Rajan, Group Chief HR officer of Tata Sons, was quoted as saying by the ET.One of the main problems is to reduce gender-divide at the higher levels of hierarchy as reducing the divide is easier at lower levels of hierarchy in the corporate world. The mentorship programme will be applicable in the countries where the Tata Group operates.last_img read more

WWII bomb to force mass evacuation in Berlin

first_imgThe discovery of an unexploded World War II bomb will force a mass evacuation around Berlin’s central railway station Friday, covering several government ministries and a hospital, police said.Buildings and streets in a radius of 800 metres (875 yards) around the site north of the busy train station will be cleared from 0700 GMT until the 500-kilogramme (1,100-pound) explosive is safely defused, they said on Twitter Wednesday. The evacuation zone covers the central railway station, the economy and transport ministries, an army hospital and the embassies of Indonesia and Uzbekistan, a police spokesman told AFP.Police said it was not yet clear how many thousands of people would be affected but predicted to local media that “it will be big, it will be a major hassle”.The Deutsche Bahn rail company and urban transport operators prepared for large-scale disruptions around the central hub for trains, trams and buses. The bomb, which was discovered during construction work on Heidestrasse in the district of Mitte, was “safe for now”, police said, reassuring nearby residents that “there is no immediate danger”.Allied planes blasted Nazi Germany during the Second World War, and vast urban and industrial areas remain littered with unexploded bombs and other ordnance often found during construction projects.Last Friday in the state of Bavaria, an ordnance disposal team defused a 500 kilogramme bomb which had forced the evacuation of 12,000 people in the city of Neu-Ulm-the third unexploded bomb to be disarmed in recent weeks in the city of 50,000 people.last_img read more

Robert Scoble Tech Treps Should Be Crazy Passionate

first_imgJune 14, 2012 Growing a business sometimes requires thinking outside the box. Free Webinar | Sept. 9: The Entrepreneur’s Playbook for Going Global Entrepreneur: What does an aspiring tech entrepreneur need to be successful?Scoble: Be passionate about your idea to the point of craziness. Unless you’re so passionate about your idea that you’re going to keep doing it until you die, you’re probably not going to develop to full potential. If you talk to venture capitalists, they look for a few things. One, does the entrepreneur have a team behind him or her that can deliver on the business plan? Adoption is another big thing. Is anyone using the product? For me, a tech startup needs to be in an interesting area, what I call “battlefields.” If you show me a Windows XP app, I don’t care if it’s the coolest thing you ever thought of. If you show me the app on an iPad, I’ll probably be more interested. The iPad is the future.Related: Mark Cuban: Outwork and Outlearn Your CompetitionEntrepreneur: What’s the future of social media and tech?Scoble: I think we’re at the beginning of a shift, moving from the conversation age to a more contextual age. Google Glasses, which we’re starting to see prototypes of, informs us what this contextual age means. If I’m walking down the street, they should be able to show me information that I need to know while walking. Not a movie, because I need to walk and navigate. If I start driving a car . . . they should show information about accidents or speed limits. It’s all about context.Entrepreneur: What inspires you professionally?Scoble: I love meeting people who see the world in a new way. Sitting down with Tony Hsieh at Zappos and understanding what customer service is all about. Or with Sergey Brin to find out that he’s working on these glasses and self-driving cars, getting a glimpse at how the world might shift because of what he’s doing at Google.Entrepreneur: How do you stay on top of your game?Scoble: I’m a social media fanatic. At my desk, I have three big screens in front of me on which I watch Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Gmail, Quora, Techmeme, Salesforce Chatter so I know what my co-workers are talking about — you name it. I sit there and it’s like the world comes to me.Related: Guy Kawasaki: No ‘Secret Sauce’ for Tech Success min read Robert Scoble’s finger is on the pulse of technology.
